An open letter for the mums, the step-mums, the grandmothers, the foster mums, the pet mums, the new mums, the nearly mums and the dads that are also mums.
Mother’s Day is a whole day set aside to honour and celebrate the women who raised us. It holds a special place in every mum’s heart, and to be a mum is a beautiful, beautiful thing! Unfortunately, in today’s society, and with the overwhelming influence and ease of social media, we sometimes forget just how empowering being a mum can be, in whatever capacity that might be.
So, to the mums who nostalgically reminisce about the days when you could use the bathroom alone but still recognise that you are living smack-dab in the middle of “the good ole’ days….”
To the mums whose kids are all grown up and having kids of their own…..
To the mums that might be having it a little tough this year because it’s the first one since; Or the sixth one since, and you thought it would be easier by now…..
To the someday-mums who are still waiting for their turn….
To the mums who are feeling overwhelmed and to the ones who are rocking it like queens…..
To the mums who’s babies live far away, and to the mums whose babies are asleep in the room next door…..and to the mums who’s babies never sleep…….
This letter is for all mums to encourage you to appreciate the motherhood journey you are in entirely and remember…..
You are enough
Mothers often feel insecure and start to think, “I’m not doing enough”. When it all seems overwhelming, know and believe that you are enough and that you are more than enough. Focus on finding a balance, and carve some time out for yourself to avoid letting your thoughts fill with feelings of discontentment.
Take the time
When everything is going on in all directions, and you know it’s not possible to be everything for everyone, that’s okay. Take the time you need for yourself first in order to look after others and your family. You can’t pour from an empty cup, so look after yourself, and everything else will fall into place.
Find joy
Deciding to look on the bright side may sound cliche- and might seem hard to achieve, but the new and more hopeful moments are typically there and endlessly worth the pursuit. The road to happiness lies upon our potential to see the bigger picture through positivity, hope and compassion. So even in the most pressing of situations, it is possible to choose your attitude toward your circumstance and keep your sense of recognition.
Remember, you are loved and celebrated this Mother’s Day. Whatever season you find yourself in, know that you are doing enough; you are loved and appreciated.
I hope you’re pampered like you deserve to be.
Happy mothers day!
