For the love of LED

Imagine if we told you that you could take a 30-minute relaxing nap that promoted brighter, clearer, tighter, and more youthful looking skin. No, this is not a dream, it is LED light therapy! Discovered by NASA scientists (yes, the same team that send people to the moon), LED light therapy is a revolutionary technology that delivers outstanding skin results on its own or in conjunction with other therapies.

So, what does NASA have to do with glowing skin you ask?

Well, they uncovered that plants were thriving and growing when under specific wavelengths of light and ultimately thought “if it’s all good for plants, why not the skin?” and started to test the theory on wounds that struggled to heal in a zero-gravity environment.

The discovery revealed that controlled exposure to specific light wavelengths activates cellular processes that can heal, regenerate, protect and stimulate the skin. In the skin science world, this is known as photobiomodulation but today, let’s describe it as seriously good skin results.

Today, this is the premise of LED light therapy which is one of the most sought-after aesthetic treatments in the world.  LED light therapy comes in a range of colours, aka wavelengths, that treat a multitude of skin conditions. Today we will be focusing on high performance wavelengths that we offer in the clinic – Red, Blue, Near-Infrared and Triwave light therapy.

Red Light (633nm)
Arguably the most well-known LED wavelength, Red Light LED is a go-to for total skin rejuvenation. It works by energising your cells, enhancing ATP production.  ATP, or Adenosine Triphosphate, are the molecules found within our cells that carry energy.

We make ATP every single day but when Red Light LED is applied to the skin, this production can be supercharged and therefore, improve how we heal, regenerate, and rejuvenate.

Red Light LED is also well known for boosting our natural production of collagen, the key to strong and youthful skin. When our natural wound healing response is triggered, it accelerates our fibroblasts which are responsible for the growth and production of collagen. By encouraging collagen production, the Red Light LED is firming, tightening, and rejuvenating the skin for a more youthful, refreshed complexion.

Blue Light (415nm)
If clearer and calmer skin is your goal, then Blue Light LED is for you. Unlike other skin therapies that work to clear acne on the surface of the skin, Blue Light LED can penetrate the hair follicle and pores to target the root cause.

It does this by attacking the acne-causing bacteria in the skin and destroys its metabolism. The bacteria lose its ability to feed off the oil glands and create more inflammation and breakouts.

Whilst Blue Light LED isn’t a cure for acne, it’s an excellent treatment for keeping breakouts at bay. Able to be performed up to two times per week, this is a brilliant option to manage acne ongoing or combined with your skin clearing treatment plan.

Near-Infrared Light (830nm)
Building skin strength and resilience is at the core of Near-Infrared LED light. Ideal for those experiencing muscular pain, scarring, inflammation in the body, skin conditions such as rosacea, or wanting to up the ante on their skin rejuvenation treatments, Near-Infrared Light is a powerful way to do this.

Near-Infrared Light has some similarities to Red LED Light when it comes to boosting skin circulation and encouraging regeneration within the skin but what makes it standout is its ability to work at a deeper level. The Near-Infrared wavelength sits outside the visible light spectrum, allowing it to penetrate deeper to tendons, muscles, and nerves.

You’ll find that because of this depth, this LED therapy is a go-to for athletes and those that have experienced injury or trauma. When applied to the face or body, Near-Infrared Light engages the skin’s anti-inflammatory processes, allowing the damaged tissue to heal and repair naturally, but quicker. With the added benefits of boosting circulation and stimulating collagen production, this light delivers a total skin-regenerating trifecta.

Triwave
Now this is where things get even more impressive. Our LED light therapy technology, the Dermalux Flex, allows you to experience the benefits of all three LED wavelengths simultaneously.

The only device on the planet that can do this (we told you it is impressive!), Triwave allows us to address multiple skin concerns, such as acne, the signs of ageing, pigmentation, and even muscular pain, at the same time, with the power adjusted to further target the specific concerns. Seriously, who doesn’t love multitasking?!

If you’re not already rushing to our “book now” button, let’s finish off today’s skin school with a few more must-knows about LED Light Therapy. This treatment is completely painless and non-invasive. All you need to do is lay back, relax and let the lights do their thing! Your trained therapist will select the most appropriate LED light (or lights) to support your skin goals.
